The PADI Open Water Diver is the world's most widely issued diving certification. It opens the doors to dive centers and underwater destinations across the globe. Once certified, you can dive to 18 meters independently, with a buddy, at any site in the world.

DUNE Turkoise offers the PADI Open Water Diver course in French and English, with theory sessions available via e-learning (completed before departure) or on-site. The course includes exercises in confined water and open-water certification dives on the magnificent sites of Providenciales.

The PADI Open Water Diver (OWD) course with DUNE Turkoise takes place in three main stages over 3 to 4 days.

Step 1: Knowledge Development (Theory) Theory can be studied via e-learning on the PADI website before departure (recommended to save time on-site), or using the printed manual at the club. You learn the principles of underwater physics, physiology, equipment, dive planning, and safety procedures. A knowledge review quiz is completed at the end of each chapter.

Step 2: Confined Water Exercises (pool or lagoon) 5 confined water exercise sessions in the Club Med pool or in the shallow lagoon of Grace Bay (1 to 3 meters). You learn to equalize buoyancy, clear and remove your mask underwater, recover your regulator, perform a controlled emergency ascent, and navigate underwater.

Step 3: Open Water Dives (4 certification dives) 4 open water dives at Providenciales sites (Coral Gardens, Hollywood Beach Reef, The Library). Depths from 5 to 18 meters. Each dive includes practical exercises and free exploration time. Upon completion of all 4 validated dives, your PADI Open Water Diver certification is issued.

Total duration 3 to 4 days depending on chosen pace. Completing e-learning before departure can reduce on-site time to 2.5 days.

Once Open Water certified, a world of higher certifications and specialties opens up at DUNE Turkoise.

PADI Advanced Open Water Diver (AOWD) 5 adventure dives including deep diving (to 30m) and underwater navigation. 2 days. Allows you to dive to 30 meters.

PADI Deep Diver (Specialty) 4 dives to 40 meters. Ideal for accessing the Black Coral Forest on the Providence Wall and the deepest sites in the archipelago.

PADI Nitrox (EANx) Half-day theory course. Allows you to use oxygen-enriched tanks (up to 40% O2) to increase bottom time and reduce dive fatigue.

PADI Night Diver 3 night dives. Discover the nocturnal fauna of Grace Bay and Hollywood Beach Reef by dive light.

PADI Underwater Photographer 2 dives with an underwater camera provided by the club. Composition, exposure, shooting modes: bring back exceptional photo memories from your Turks and Caicos dives.

PADI Rescue Diver Intensive 2-day course (prerequisites: AOWD and PADI Emergency First Response). Managing emergency situations, aquatic first aid, searching for and recovering a diver in distress.

A: The minimum age is 10 years for PADI Junior Open Water Diver (to 12m with a certified adult). From age 15, the full certification is issued with no depth restriction (to 18m).

Q: How long does the PADI Open Water course take with DUNE Turkoise?

A: 3 to 4 days on site. If you complete PADI e-learning before departure, you can reduce on-site time to 2.5 days. The pace can be adapted to your stay.

A: Yes, PADI Open Water Diver certification is recognized in over 185 countries and never expires. It allows you to dive to 18 meters independently (with a certified buddy) at any dive center in the world.

Q: Can you dive freely in Turks and Caicos with an Open Water certification?

A: Yes, once PADI Open Water certified, you can join DUNE Turkoise independent diver trips to 18 meters. For dives on the Providence Wall deeper than 18 meters, Advanced Open Water Diver certification is required.

A: Absolutely. PADI offers a complete e-learning platform at PADI.com. Start theory from home before your trip to maximize dive time on-site. DUNE Turkoise will provide your access code after registration.

Q: Is the PADI Open Water course available in English?

A: Yes, all training is conducted in English (and French) by our PADI instructors. PADI manuals and course materials are available in English. PADI e-learning is also available in English.

Q: What happens if I do not complete all certification dives during my stay?

A: If your stay is too short, DUNE Turkoise can issue a Scuba Diver certification (2 of 5 dives completed) which you complete at any other PADI center worldwide. Final Open Water certification is then obtained elsewhere at no extra charge for the already completed portion.

Q: What medical conditions are required to take a PADI course?

A: You will need to complete the PADI medical questionnaire. Certain conditions (asthma, heart problems, epilepsy) require a medical certificate. Good general health is sufficient for the vast majority of candidates. The DUNE Turkoise team will guide you if needed.
